From high above respectful eyes
With gaze across the Plain
At once immortal in granite cape
A marble base that bares the name
From the hallowed hall’s bannered walls
Youthful voices once did strain
Did sing the deeds of Benny Havens, Oh
And an everlasting Corps
Did leave behind a long gray line
To answer duty’s call
To serve the cause of liberty
To win the hearts and minds
But if there’s to be no granite steed
No legions passing my review
The world still turns on smaller deeds
That history never knew
And if there is but one heart to win
Then let that one heart be
The heart I win one letter at a time
In love letters to E
